Album of the week: Joss Stone “Colour Me Free”

2009/11/02

She is only 22 years old, but Joss Stone is one of the best singers of our time. The white girl has such a powerful soul voice, it`s a delight to hear her sing.

The british singer from Devon shot to fame with her debut “Soul Sessions” when she was only 16 years old! She sold millions of records, got BRIT awards and Grammy award nominations and convinced everyone who saw her live on stage that she is a unique talent.

After lots of arguments with her record company EMI about her musical direction and style, it`s great to see that “Colour Me Free”, her fourth studio album, is out now. The new album contains 14 tracks and it`s a fantastic mixture of pop, soul, R´n`B, gospel, funk and hip hop. The album was recorded in Wellington in the live club of Joss`s mother. Joss produced the album together with Conor Reeves and Jonathan Shorten. The list of guest musicians on the album is long and contains only the best people of their genre, like Jeff Beck, Sheila E (Prince), Raphael Saadiq, Nas, David Sanburn and Jamie Hartman. Highlights of the album are “Could Have Been You”, “Parallel Lines”, “Governmentalist” (with Nas), “Stalemate” (with Jamie Hartman), “Girlfriend on demand” and the opulent, almost 14 minutes long end title “Mr Wankerman”.

She is definatley in the league of people like Alicia Keys and this album is the prove. Get stoned!
